Topic: Smart Fibers and Self-Powered Wearable Devices
Guest Editors
Special Issue Introduction
Smart fibers that deliver electronic functionalities to the human body can collect, process, store, transmit, and display information in response to various environmental stimuli. The seamless integration of traditional fibers with advanced energy harvesting, energy conversion, energy storage, and multimode sensing technologies provides versatile and wearable energy and sensing solutions for distributed, human-centered on-body electronics in the era of the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. Smart self-powered fibers are expected to attract considerable research interest and enrich a wide range of application areas, including wearable power sources, multifunctional sensors, personalized healthcare, humanoid robotics, and human–machine interfaces.
This Special Issue focuses on smart fibers and self-powered wearable devices for energy harvesting, energy conversion, and multimode sensing, aiming to advance developments in these research directions from both fundamental fiber/textile science and practical engineering perspectives.
