Special Topic Introduction

Global net-zero transition and ecological environmental governance pose long-term global challenges, profoundly affecting energy development, ecological balance and industrial low-carbon upgrading. Developing efficient, sustainable and scalable catalytic technologies is core to achieving carbon neutrality and global sustainable development goals. Advanced catalytic systems integrating electrocatalysis, photocatalysis and thermocatalysis have emerged as cutting-edge core technologies for low-carbon energy production, carbon resource utilization, and water and atmospheric pollutant remediation. Novel catalytic materials including single atoms, clusters, nanocrystals, metal-organic frameworks and carbon-based materials significantly improve catalytic activity, selectivity and stability through precise active site regulation and optimized reaction pathways. Advances in in-situ characterization, mechanism analysis and industrial scale-up provide critical support for developing next-generation green catalytic technologies that integrate energy decarbonization and environmental pollution control. This special issue focuses on innovative advances of advanced catalysis in sustainable energy conversion and environmental governance, covering catalytic mechanisms, novel material design, technological upgrading and engineering applications. It prioritizes original research on CO2 capture and conversion, mild green ammonia synthesis, photo/electrocatalytic hydrogen production, high-efficiency electrocatalysts for energy devices, advanced oxidation for wastewater treatment, and industrial flue gas purification, aiming to advance low-carbon technological innovation and facilitate the achievement of global net-zero emissions.

Keywords
