Special Interview with Prof. Yu Huang from City University of Hong Kong

From April 11 to 13, 2025, the 2nd Conference on Vascular Homeostasis and Diseases & the 10th Scientific Meeting of the Asian Society for Vascular Biology was successfully held in Shenzhen, China. The prestigious conference brought together world-renowned experts and scholars in the field of vascular biology to explore the latest advances and future directions in vascular homeostasis and related diseases.

As the official supporting journal of this important event, Vessel Plus was honored to conduct a special interview with Prof. Yu Huang from City University of Hong Kong, a distinguished leader in vascular biology and biomedical sciences.

In this exclusive conversation, Prof. Huang shared his insights on the future of translational research and clinical applications in vascular biology, reflected on his editorial and leadership roles in the global scientific community, assessed the strengths and opportunities in Asia’s biomedical research landscape, and offered valuable advice for young researchers entering the field.

Brief Introduction

Dr. Yu Huang received his BSc from Fudan University Shanghai Medical College and a PhD from University of Cambridge. He was the Chair Professor of Biomedical Sciences (2010 to 2021) in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently the Jeanie Hu Professor of Biomedical Sciences, Chair Professor and Head of Department of Biomedical Sciences at the City University of Hong Kong since October 2021. He is currently the Vice President of both the Chinese Section of International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) and Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences.

He is an elected Fellow of ISHR, International Union for Physiological Sciences Academy of Physiology, and British Pharmacological Society. He received the Inaugural Hong Kong Research Grants Council - Senior Research Fellow Award (2020). He is the first Chinese scholar to receive the Peter Harris Distinguished Scientist Award from ISHR (2024). He has been an Associate Editor of Circulation Research since 2019. He was the past President of the Asian Society for vascular Biology (2010 - 2018).

His team focuses to elucidate cellular and molecular events in endothelial dysfunction in hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerosis, to uncover novel biomarkers of vascular pathogenesis, and to develop ways to reverse vascular dysfunction in animal models of cardiometabolic disease. He has co-authored 524 SCI indexed publications in journals including Nature, Cell Metabolism, Circulation Research, European Heart Journal, PNAS, Diabetes, etc. with over 37,200 Google scholar citations and h-index of 99.
